Plano ASG and dye artist Susan Wiedner will be offering two sessions of natural fiber dyeing in July in Allen. These workshops are conducted in an outdoor environment and are limited to 8 people per session. Note that both workshops are the same – just offered on 2 different Saturdays. Registration form is below the images, at the bottom of this page.
Workshops begin at 1:00 pm, after the workshop you are welcome to relax and cool off poolside. (BYOB – Bring your own Bathingsuit)
In this dying workshop we’ll be working with Procion Fiber Reactive dyes and plant fiber based fabric – cotton and silk. We will cover the chemicals (including mixing and storing), how to manipulate fabric for different affects, the dying process, and a bit about the differences between painting and dying.
Participants will dye 3 cotton tea towels and one silk scarf. Kit fee payable day of workshop is $15.00.
What you need to bring with you – a plastic bucket, washtub, or some sort of plastic bin ( like the kind you store things in ) This will be a hands on class, so you will want to have either an apron or wear something you don’t care about ruining (old T-shirt). Gloves will be furnished as well as the dye and dyeing supplies.
Attached are some examples of what you can expect to end up with. There are many many ways to manipulate fabric, these are just a few examples of what your items could look like:
