Marie Barrese taught the Couture Neighborhood Group how to put a zipper in a pocket. She adapted steps from Power Sewing Step-by-Step by Sandra Betzina, page 67.
Zipper in slant pocket instead of side seam (pictures below)
Step 1 – Cut 1 side front from fashion fabric with the printed side of the pattern against the right side of the fabric. Add stay tape to the slanted edge.
Step 2 – Cut 2 pieces of fashion fabric 6″ x 14″ and sew together with a basting stitch. Insert a 7″ to 9″ zipper.
Step 3 – Add stay tape to the slanted edge of the pocket bag. Then attach pocket bag to garment front
Step 4 – Position the zipper piece under the pocket bag and front. Cut zipper piece to match pocket
Step 5 – Sew pocket
Step 6 – Assemble rest of garment stopping at waistband attachment
Step 7 – The waistband is easier to attach if you cut it 3 3/8″ wide and as long as your wait plus 6″
Step 8 – Attach waistband starting at the right side of the zipper and end at the pocket opening.
