Plano Chapter Advisory Board (2020 CAB)

Meet our 2020 Chapter Leadership

Marie Barese
President

Marie has been sewing forever! She started making doll clothes on her grandmother’s Singer treadle machine and has rarely stopped since. She’s belonged to three different ASG groups, Chicago twice, Boston Area and now Plano ASG. Retired now with two grandchildren, there still isn’t enough time to sew all she wants to.

Sandie Griego
Treasurer

Sandie learned to sew from her mother and from membership in 4-H.  Her farming community had a county and state fair where she would enter her clothing and home dec items for competition.  By the time she entered high school, she made 95% of all her clothes.  Her final project for Home Economics was a scrap quilt. As time progressed, she made P.J.’s for her boys and elaborate Halloween costumes. All of the drapery in her home were made while waiting for the house to be built.  Today she is active in the Electric Quilt group and the Quilting Bees.  She enjoys making special occasion dresses for her new granddaughter.

Terri Baker
Secretary

Terri Baker was born and raised in East Texas. She began sewing before she began school! She learned to sew doll clothes while her mother made custom draperies. Sewing was fun and her mother was always at hand to guide and instruct. In high school, as a member of the FHA (future homemakers of America), she sewed clothes which she was required to wear to school. She won a first place ribbon at the county fair, for a sesquicentennial pillow; both sewn and hand embroidered!
Before the birth of Terri’s first child, she sewed her maternity  clothes, the “coming home” outfit, as well as all hot air balloon decorations for the nursery. There weren’t many cute ideas to sew for three  sons!
Sewing took a large backseat when Terri’s career began, only to make a huge resurgence upon retirement! Finally, after retiring, she was blessed with a granddaughter to sew for! Each holiday for the first year of granddaughter Savannah’s life was met with a darling couture dress with a heart embroidered somewhere on the garment; her signature heart showing that “her granddaughter has her heart”.
By mere chance, she happened across the American Sewing Guild and determined the Plano ASG to be the best fit! The organization has introduced Terri to many wonderful new friends and help with any type of sewing her mind can imagine!
Terri lives in Dallas with her husband Scott. They have two grand children, Savannah, James and a third grandchild due in February 2018!
Sewing is either learned or a passion! Terri displays her original hand crank toy Singer sewing machine in her sewing studio.

Carol Boyd
Community Service Chair

Carol grew up in Dallas in a family of sewists, watching and learning as they sewed, crocheted, cross-stitched and did hand embroidery. She joined ASG, when she retired after thirty years helping others as a registered nurse. Now she is able to continue to learn new skills and techniques while still helping others.

Debby Bowles
Membership Co-Chair

Debby has been sewing since she joined Plano ASG in 2007.  Through ASG she relearned many of the basic skills she learned in high school, plus more, so that she has been able to sew all of her clothes for about ten years.  Yep – has fasted from Ready-to-Wear for some time.  ASG continually challenges her to try new techniques and improve for sewing skills.

Linda Davis
Membership Co-Chair

Maggie Tinnin
Retail Liaison

Neighborhood Group Leader for all of the quilting and Electric Quilt neighborhood groups.

Sheryl Belson
Social Media and Blog Manager

Sheryl found ASG when she re-entered the world of sewing – sewing more than simple unstructured garments that is- in August 2012. After a 15+ year break in any serious attempts in garment construction she realized most of her skills had too much rust on them to be very effective. In her search for help she found the annual ASG conference which then led her to the local chapter.

Sheryl has found the members and group meetings to be an incredible source of encouragement, information and ideas. After 4 years as Special Events chair, and 2 years as President, she looks forward to contributing in her social media role with the Plano chapter and her participation on the board of directors at the national level.
