2018 ASG Plano Sewing Retreat!

Sewing retreats are a wonderful way to relax, unwind, rejuvenate, and inspire our minds and bodies.  You will meet new friends and learn a new technique or two!

The 2018 AGS Plano was another huge success!  There were 26 ladies sewing day and night!  The Sunset Retreat and Quilt Shop is setup to allow you to sew and shop all night if you want to!   Did I say “sew” and “shop”?  Yes!! The retreat center is one large building with an onsite quilt shop which operates by the “honor system and is open 24/7!.

Taken from the Sunset Retreat website:

Sunset Retreat is a multipurpose retreat center located in Sunset, TX. Set on 150 picturesque acres, it is a wonderful place to relax. The beautifully landscaped facility is over 14,000.00sq.ft. There is a large, well lit meeting room with tables and chairs that can be arranged to fit any event. There is a kitchenette area complete with a full-size refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker for guest use located in the meeting room.

All delicious meals are prepared in house and served buffet style in the large dining room. There is a fully stocked breakfast bar also located in the dining room, where along with all the breakfast items there is coffee, tea and an ice machine available for guest use at all times. The living room area is complete with a TV/DVD/Satellite.

The overnight accommodations consist of ten spacious bedrooms. Two of these are ADA compliant. There is an on-suite bathroom in every room. The bathrooms have a large, two sink vanity area separated from the commode and walk in shower.

After a long day of meetings, quilting, scrapbooking etc. You might want to spend some time on the garden patio relaxing by the fountain or chatting around the fire pit.

This was the best retreat to date!   There is a covered portico, with rolling carts to unload your prized possessions!  At check in each attendee was given their room number and a bag full of wonderful, sewing related, items; from fabric, to buttons, to a great book!

The following  are a few highlights;  Ginny Stein created a beautiful embroidery design on a jacket back; there were three sisters sewing, along with a lady from work they “adopted” as a retreat sister!  Tricia worked diligently on her “Susan Khalje” Couture Lace Skirt, which we can’t wait to see completed!  Susan (a newbie to our retreat and a friend of Markita’s!) completed an Alabama Chanin jacket, which turned out great!  Markita completed a stunning suit!  Kimber worked on a beautiful quilt, with “perfect points”!  Sandie & Joyce were cranking out quilt blocks with lightning speed; quilt blocks were in abundance; Tamzin and her mom, Tam, were busy with a beautiful string quilt and some apparel alterations; Sharon embroidered pillow cases with gorgeous “henna” designs!   Lisa and Betty Farnsworth worked on a prom dress for a special granddaughter/daughter!

A $25 gift card to the onsite quilt shop was given to Paulette Moreland!  Congratulations Paulette!   Her name was drawn from a word scramble!  All completed word scrambles were checked and all those with correct answers, names were put in the hat!

The Sunset Retreat and Quilt Shop has been successfully booked for next year!! This is truly a retreat you won’t want to miss!!!   No cooking, no laundry, no family, no work!!  You deserve it!!!

A HUGE THANK YOU TO Sharon Merlo!!! She worked very hard to provide another wonderful, stress-free retreat!!
